The exhibition is made up of a selection of works by Oswaldo Guayasamín (Quito, 1919 - Baltimore, 1999), an Ecuadorian painter linked to the indigenous current who relied on the recently emerged initiate avant-gardes to carry out his work, which is fundamental- critical and vindictive mind. This relationship with the European avant-garde made way for these places, participating in 1952 in the III Hispano-American Biennial of Art held in Barcelona, ??for which reason he had a very close relationship with the Catalan artists at the time who enjoyed his work. The exhibition reflects the bidirectional influence of Oswaldo Guayasamín and the Catalan artists of the moment, Antoni Cumellas & Modest Cuixart..
Julián García Hernández presents in Artevistas his new exhibition "Recent Work". As the title itself indicates, we will discover the artist's latest works, which remain faithful to his recurring themes: Art and criticism of mass consumption.
"Recent Work" proposes a guided itinerary through a selection of iconic pieces from the history of art, to propose a new approach to those works always seen but never observed.
In the exercise of redrawing these works, Julian approaches them from an analytical point of view. In a precise way he observes and models the lines until he reaches a kind of rational representation of the painting.
In contrast, the collage and the uninhibited strokes make up the characters that inhabit their paintings and that suppose that commercial and frivolous look that also exists in the art world. In the words of the artist himself, those "gullible characters who continue to volunteer to visit museums, buildings and cities to visit all that they have heard that they should visit at the stroke of Greatest Hits, with no more criteria than that of mass culture."
A look at interesting and interesting art, which approaches this from curiosity and respect, but also from irony and criticism. "Recent Work", will be in Artevistas Gallery from the 6th to the 30th of April.
