This exhibition aims to show the work of Shigeyoshi Koyama and Keiko Ogawa, both artists trained in artistic level in Japan. In his work, there is a clear Oriental tradition, as well as the way to treat the themes and colors
Shigeyoshi Koyama is interested in capturing outdoor spaces and landscapes which are usually their closest environment where almost never can appreciate figures, on the other hand Keiko Ogawa is interested in capturing day to day life: people, interiors, animals, among others.
The relationship between the work of these two artists as regards their technical, light, strokes, colors, and themes gives an interesting relationship between, outdoors and indoors makes this exhibition reached a wealth of dialogue through the observation of works by viewers
Koyama believes that East and West are two extremes that do not confront but coexist quietly. He likes the landscape and is faithful to this topic. He paints a sunlight that exists in his imagination and corresponds usually at the end of the day, for that the color that dominates his work is grey. He don’t feel paint in a hard blue, even paint scenes of Mediterranean
Thus, his oils canvas reveal bare landscapes, rocks and exaggerated dim light and have become a characteristic image in his work so that viewers quickly identify that it is a Koyama’s work.
Keiko Ogawa, although in the beginning their work tended towards abstraction with intense chromatic range, when she moved to Barcelona in 2005, and through the influence of some realist painters of this city, her style evolves into figuration, with more natural colors.
Now, in hers work paints appears people, animals and objects in their everyday life, scenes from the immediate environment of the artist, from objects displayed characters still lifes to portraits outside his home. Ogawa’s work i’ts part of an intimate realism.
Through painting, Ogawa discover new colors, shades and a deeper insight into the light. Its aim is to portray the human universe that surrounds it, with its expressive components, psychological and relationship between artist and object or character.
Dear Clients and Friends,
Shiegoshi Koyama has come back towards us.
This Japanese artist has lived in Cadaqués for more than 40 years.
For his Works he is inspired by the reality: houses, rocks, wàter, sea, people, streets...thanks to his unique technique we easily recognise his works.
He has an artistic personality beyond any doubt.
He has imposed his aesthetic over the years.
He is in love to Cadaqués, with its landscape with its mountains without any trees, with its heavy wind. He transmits this countryside to his works making them like a “zen” space that perfectly fits with Japanese aesthetic.
Be Welcomed !!
