Arts Santa Mònica presents the book: Els primers 5475 dies del centre d'Arts Santa Mònica

Arts Santa Mònica invites you to the book presentation “Els primers 5475 dies del Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica” of Josep Miquel Garcia, that will be next Wednesday, 20th November, at 19:00h.

With the participation of Angels Ponsa, director of Creation, Territorial Acction and Libraries, Vicenç Altaió, directori of the Arts Santa Mònica (2009 - 2013), Josep Miquel Garcia, commissary of the exhibition “Vicenç Altaió the fertile eye. Artist’s books and idea dealer”, and director of the Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica (1988 - 2002); and Oscar Esquerda, from Onix Editor.

Synopsis:
The Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica, was one of the firsts cultural centers in the democratic recuperation of Catalunya. Its firsts 5475 days that explain this book, organizated more than 200 exhibitions, being the testimony to a preolimpic Barcelona, when the MNAC and the MACBA didn’t exists as we know nowadays.
Santa Mònica was one of the firsts art centers in all the country to recive exhibitions to Ferran Garcia Sevilla, Zush, Carlos Pazos, Francesc Torres, Àngel Jové, Antoni Muntadas, Palau i Fabre, or Joan Perucho. Also collective exhibitions like “Surrealisme a Catalunya”, “Distància Zero”, “To be and not to be”, or the individual of Joseph Beuys, Michelangelo Pistoletto, General Idea, Alfredo Jaar, Hannah Collins, Chris Burden, Ettore Sotsass, Achile Castiglioni, Philippe Starck, Enzo Mari or Ingo Maurer.

Josep Miquel Garcia:
Art critic, museum director and exhibition commissary. Licensed in Art History in the University of Barcelona (1974 - 1979). Member of the Catalan Association of Art Critics and the International, since 1977. Between 1977 and 1993 art critic for the Entertainment guide of Barcelona and since 1982 for the journal Segre. Also worked as an artistic advisory for the Fundació Caixa Barcelona and Fundació “La Caixa”. Also directs the Sculpture in the streets fair celebrated in Tarrega, and the Painting biennial of the Balears. Between 1987 and 2002 is the director of the Arts Center Santa Monica of Barcelona.
