Los Premios GAC celebran la Gran Nit del Galerisme con una ceremonia de entrega de premios

La ceremonia de entrega de los Premios que ha tenido lugar en el CCCB, con fiesta posterior en el MACBA ha contado con la asistencia de cerca de 300 invitados del mundo del arte y el galerismo

Barcelona, Wednesday June 5th, 2019. - Tonight have been celebrated the GAC Awards 2019 - XII Galleries' Night, organized by the Union of Art Galleries of Catalunya and the Art Barcelona Association, at the Sala Teatre of the CCCB. The following party took place at the Atrio of the MACBA, where the artist Angels Ribé presented a performance. The GAC Awards gave tribute to different personalities related to the art and the galleries of Catalunya.

The Awards have the support of the Fundació Banc Sabadell, that also give name to the honorific awards. The institutional collaboration is represented with the Culture Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC), the Institut de la Cultura of the Mayor of Barcelona (ICUB) and the Diputació of Barcelona.

The CCCB and the MACBA, take in his spaces the awards and the following party. The awards have became an important date in the Visual Arts. The principal goal is to increase the diffusion and that the art galleries of Catalunya take a stance as principal elements on the diffusion of the artists.
The Awards recognize every agent that is related to the art world: Artists, critics, art commissaries, media, collectors and galleries.

This night, have been celebrated Angels Ribé and Fernando Pinós, that accepted the GAC-Fundació Banc Sabadell Honorary Award in the categories of artist and gallerist, respectively, in recognition of the wide trajectories and the importance on the promotion of catalan art. The past editions have recived this award: Frederic Amat (2018), Perejaume (2017), Sean Scully (2016), Susana Solano (2015), Alfons Borrell (2014), Antoni Muntadas (2013), Richard Hamilton (2012), Jaume Plensa (2011), Antoni Tàpies (2010), and the gallerists Alejando Sales (2018), Mariana Draper (2017) and Francesc Mestre (2016).

The committee and the jury:

The organization committee of the GAC Awards have been formed by: Mònica Ramon as representative and president of the GGAC, Victor Lope as representative of the Art Barcelona Association and Jordi Pijoan as secretary.

The jury of the GAC Awards 2019 have been leaded by the art critic and journalist Motse Frisach, following Roser Figueras, art collector and directive of Cal Cago, Helena Tatay art critic, historian and commissary, Josep Casamartina, art historian, journalist and art critic, Rafael G. Bianchi, artist, and Alicia Ventura, commissary of the DKV collection.

The honorific GAC-Foundation Banc Sabadell Award: Angels Ribé.

The GAC Awards - XII Gallerism Night highlight the artist Àngels Ribé.

Born in Barcelona, in 1943. Belongs to an artists generation that started his career at the 60’s, where there were big political and social changes that influence directly her work. In 1967, suffocated by the oppressive environment of Barcelona travels to Paris to study Sociology. In Paris take part of the “May 68” events and later starts working with the sculptor Piotr Kowalski. In 1969 presents her first installation, Laberint.

At the 70’s, travels to the United States (Chicago and New York) where discovers alternative artistic spaces. Ribé makes performances and installations that documents through photography. Later returns to Spain and gets back the interest to the objectual character of the art and the sculpture.

Honorary GAC - Fundació Banc Sabadell Award to the gallerist Fernando Pinós.

Born in 1947 in Barcelona, Fernando Pinós is a passionated of the arts and a very respected person in the modernism world. Started his career when he was 23 year’s old as a young antiques dealer, at a place called Art Nouveau. As time went by he positioned in the national art market as a specialist in catalan modernism.
Later, he moved his headquarter to one of the most important streets of Barcelona, where shared the space with great gallerists as the Gaspar brothers, René Metras, Salvador Riera with Dau al Set or the Furriol sisters with the Eude gallery.

At this new space, Pinós took advantage and chenged the name of the gallery to Gothsland. In 2010 he created the Modernism Museum of Barcelona placed in the Eixample’s neighborhood. It has a magnificent collection of paints, sculptures and decorative arts pieces, uniques in the entire world.

Collectors award: José Ángel Sanz and Marisa Cortell

The jury has decided to give this award to them, for its participation with the collections, building a collection with conceptual art works, where has took importance the acquisition in catalan art galleries.

This collection has more than 100 works with all techniques: painting, video, photography, engraved pieces, and artists books. The collection goes from 1969 since actual pieces.

Best historic exhibition at a Gallery: “Ponç-Brossa” exhibited at the Joan Prats Gallery

This exhibition has win the award because of the dialogue created between two members of the group Dau al Set, Joan Ponç and Joan Brossa, a painter and a poet, related to the Joan Prats Gallery.
The two of them evolved differently but sharing the taste of the magic, the mistery, the popular culture, the theatre, its constant changes and the social critics. The exhibition brought a related new vision on the works of the two artists.

Best program of a Gallery: ProjectesSD
The jury highlights the program that through all 2018, included exhibitions of Matt Mullican, Dora Garía, the collective Accrochange #4, and the shown of Espace perdu, the works divided in two chapters of Guy Mees, an important Belgium figure of the Avantgarde art.

The gallery Projecte SD was created by Silvia Dauder in 2003. The program of the gallery has been build to generate a dialogue between stablished artists and younger artists.

Commissary award: Alexandra Laudo and the exhibition “Una certa foscor” presented at CaixaForum Barcelona

The award was given to knowing how to create a consideration on the look, the absence and the images through a puntual history moment: The robbery of the Gioconda at the Louvre Museum in 1911. Thought the blank space left on the Parisian museum develops a story full of metaphors and different lectures.

Alexandra Laudo is the commissary of the exhibition “Una certa foscor” of Caixaforum and the winner of the third edition of Comisart.

Best exhibition at a gallery of a consolidated artist: Antoni Miralda and the exhibition “Miralda, tres proyectos (NYC - MIA - BCN)” at the Senda Gallery.

To reflect a very precisely way and at the same time atractive of the work proces of Antoni Miralda. The exhibition also reflected the capacity of Miralda to join art and life in a very elegant way, and to join different sectors on artistic projects on a broad scale.

Born in Terrasa in 1942, Antoni Miralda is a very interdiciplinar artists that lives and works between Miami and Barcelona. In 1971 moved to New York, and since this year works in public spaces in United States and Europe. His projects starts with previous investigation and develops them through large periods with the collaboration of the public itself.
His public acts took place in different cities like París, New York, Kassel, Miami, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Barcelona, and others, also has exhibited in the Contemporary Art Institute of London, the Contemporary Art Museum of Texas, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art of Missouri, the Foundation Joan Miró and the Palace of the Virreina in Barcelona, the IVAM of Valencia, the Miami Art Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires.

DKV Award to the best exhibition at a gallery of a emerging artist: Pep Vidal and the exhibition “Who wants to be an impatient gardener?” at ADN Gallery

The jury has chosen the career of Pep Vidal, interested specially in this exhibition project that relates the arts and the nature.
Pep Vidal it’s an artist licensed on maths. Has a Phd on physics at the UAB.
The project started in September of 2016 when the artist bought all the stock of a plant shop. His intention was to document the different variations and interactions of more than 300 plants, evaluating the volume, the color, the humidity, the light, among others. The exhibition at ADN Galley it’s the second chapter of the project that started parallel in New York and Barcelona.

Critic award: Victoria Combalia

To her long career as professor, writer, and art critic in different media, always with a wide open vision and with different interests. Also, has vindicated always the role of women in the arts, writing monographes like the biography of Dora Maar.

Licesnciated in Art History at the UAB, with a thesis about the analysis of conceptual arts critic.

In 1975 went to study in Paris, at the École Pratique Hautes Études, invited researcher at the Institute of Fine Arts of the New York University, prepared his thesis about Gustave Courbet and the selection of the opinion.

Since 2016 writes regularly at the Quadern of the journal El País. Founded with Alicia Suarez and Mercé Vidal the Artilugi magazine (1977 - 1982). With Albert Ràfols Casamada, Marina Girona, Joan Hernández-Pijuan and Carlos Hernández-Mor the magazine ANTEPECHO, of art and poetry.
Founder member of the Arts Catalan Critic Association and member of the Spanish Art Critic Association.

Media award: Territori Contemporani, co-produced by Vallès Oriental Television and La Xarxa.

Directed by Albert Jordana and produced by La Xarxa de Televisions Locals in collaboration with Vallès Oriental Television, the tv program Territori Contemporani has shown and highlighted the catalan artistic world, and gave voice to the vision of the artists, and the diferent cultural agents.

Territori Contemporani it’s a Tv program about arts and contemporary culture broadcasted weekly in the local television and in internet.

Produced by La Xarxa de Televisions Locals collaborating with the channel VOTV. Its director is Frederic Montornés. The spaces invite us in every episode to know two centers of contemporary culture and also an artists that has exhibited in one of them.
